The world’s biggest PC manufacturer, HP is set to release an inexpensive
Android Smart Phone aimed at the prepaid and BRIC markets. Smartphones
are one product that has not been manufactured by HP till now, so we are
expecting to see a change in this as per the rumors.
As per the rumors the device is expected to have a 5.5 inch screen and will resemble the Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 and expecting to hit the market at $200 price and it can be introduced as soon as next week. Earlier the company purchased the Palm and its webOS mobile Operating System in 2010 and there were few devices that were running on this operating system that included the HP Veer and the HP TouchPad.
Later in 2011, HP stopped its operations on the webOS hardware and recently sold the Operating System to LG. HP is likely to enter the Smart Phone market with Android as its OS, considering how consumers are increasingly depending on the Smart phones and tablets for majority of their needs.
Earlier HP CEO Whitman confirmed that the company was building up a Smart phone and dumping is WebOS, “So a smartphone is not if, but when, for Hewlett-Packard?” – Whitman replied: ”[HP has] to ultimately offer a smartphone, because in many countries in the world that is your first computing device. You know, there will be countries around the world where people may never own a tablet or a PC or desktop. They will do everything on the smartphone. We’re a computing company, we have to take advantage of that form factor.”
She also quoted that, “We don’t have any plans to introduce a smartphone in 2013, but we’ve got to start thinking about what is our unique play, how do we capture this element of the personal computing market? HP has to offer every kind of device, from workstations through all-in-one PCs, laptops, hybrid PCs, tablets “and, ultimately, smartphones.
I believe that five years from now, if we don’t have a smartphone or whatever the next generation of that device is, we’ll be locked out of a huge segment of the population in many countries of the world, she said.
The device is likely to come with lesser resolution, may be a 720p considering its price range. Whatever it might be we are likely to witness a device from HP, which has take long time to come in to the Smart phone market and we should not expect anything less from it. However we need to wait until the device is unveiled and let’s hope it will be something we could enjoy in using. Would you consider to using their devices?
