Samsung Galaxy SIII & S4 under Cricket receiving Android 4.3 Update with Galaxy Gear support – Details

The Samsung Galaxy S III and S4 handsets under Cricket network in the US are receiving the OTA update, and that is to the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean version, after most of the other network providers in the US already doing that in the past few days. This update will be on OTA (over-the-air) today, bringing along the changes from Android 4.2. You can have this update if you own a Samsung 2013 flagship on the Cricket carrier.

Most of the applicable Samsung devices have received the update on major and minor carriers. The Software update for Cricket’s Galaxy S4 variant comes with all the features from the last version Jelly Bean and adds compatibility with Samsung’s own Galaxy Gear smartwatch, which is now compatible only with the Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note ll and Note 3 smartphones for now, and the list could get bigger with Samsung’s plans for software updates in the other devices.
Samsungs KNOX security system support and few visual updates to the TouchWiz can be seen in the new version. Few of the Cricket’s apps like the obligatory and Navigator are updated to its next version along with some bug fixes.
This OTA is of 569 MB and expected to roll out in stages as most of the OTA’s does. The firmware version R530CVVUCMK3 should be received very soon if you don’t have it yet. So head for WiFi coverage to see it downloading or wait for verification and get it rooted from ROM community.
Haven’t you got the update notice already? go to Settings > About > Software update section and manually search for the update if you haven’t got the pop up. Make sure you are connected to the network via Wi-Fi.
Having got this update quite late, the owners of these two devices under Cricket network would surely have to wait longer when Samsung starts pushing the Android 4.4 KitKat update to the S3 and S4 in the beginning of 2014.
